Amar'e Stoudemire Refuses To Share Locker With Gay Teammate: Watch Shocking Rant - I’m going to shower across the street,” Amar’e Stoudemire , 34, said while speaking with an Israeli media outlet if he’d had an issue with a gay teammate, according to TMZ . Not only did the former Phoenix Suns player say he wouldn’t share a locker room with a gay basketball player, he made it sound like he wants nothing to do with having any gay men on his team. “[I’d] make sure my change of clothes are around the corner, and I’m going to drive – take a different route to the gym,” Amar’e said. When asked if this incredibly homophobic response was his poor attempt at a joke, he didn’t say no. “I mean, there’s always a truth within a joke,” he said, indicating that he was actually serious about how much he doesn’t like the idea of being on the same team with a gay man.
